E-invoicing is coming to Ireland — what November 2028 actually means for your business

France made e-invoicing mandatory for issuing in September 2027. Belgium switched on in January 2026. Germany phases through 2027–28. And Ireland? No B2B mandate yet — but the EU's ViDA framework means Irish businesses will be RECEIVING structured e-invoices from November 2028, with the full cross-border regime from 2030. Here's the honest timeline, and what's worth doing now.

The dates that matter

Now → 2028: Ireland's B2G e-invoicing already applies if you tender for public contracts. Private B2B is voluntary.

November 2028: Irish businesses must be able to RECEIVE structured e-invoices. If your invoicing software can't parse one, you'll notice.

2030–2035: the ViDA cross-border regime phases in — structured e-invoicing becomes the default for intra-EU B2B.

Who should act early

If you sell into France (issue mandate Sep 2027), Germany (2027–28) or Belgium (live), you're already inside other countries' mandates — check your customers' requirements now, not in 2027.

If you're purely domestic, November 2028 is your first hard date. That's 24 months — enough time to choose tooling calmly instead of panic-buying in month three.

What NOT to do

Don't buy an 'e-invoicing compliance package' from anyone scaring you about 2026 deadlines that don't exist for Irish B2B. The deadline writers are already selling. The dates above are the real ones — check them against the official EU source, which we link below.

We'll keep this page updated as Ireland transposes ViDA. When there's a fixed date with a statutory source, it lands on the Forecast within the month.
